A sneak peek at the BlizzCon floor

A sneak peek at the BlizzCon floor   Our good friends at the Orange County Register were lucky enough to be let into BlizzCon yesterday (we’ll be on the floor in just a few hours here), and they’ve got a preview gallery of what it’s like in there up on their site right now. There’s nothing super revealing in there, but there are lots of pictures of vendors setting up, and the various stages they’ll have at the event. The Illidan statue from last year is making a re-appearance, and he’s joined by someone Starcraft fans will want to see. We can’t wait to get in there — Diablo 3 will be playable, and of course we’ll have coverage from all the panels, tournaments, and booths inside the convention center all day today and tomorrow. The Opening Ceremony starts at 11am PST, so stay tuned here to watch our coverage as it goes down live.

Slight Modifications to Engineering ideas

Devs, I posted this earlier in what turned into a QQ and flaming thread about lack of equality in professions, so I copied it and pasted it here, hoping it would start a discussion more specifically directed at the idea. I would love user feedback on the idea as well, but please keep posts to constructive ideas and additions about the idea. Seeing the new inscription shoulder enchants makes me wish that instead of a craftable headpiece, that you could affix Goggles to your current helm, giving us effectively a craftable head enchant. This would fit well in line with the other changes to engineering that allow us to modify existing gear instead of crafting pigeon hole items like we have in the past. Doing this would allow not only enchants for tanking, DPS, healing etc. but would also perhaps give Blizzard a way of re-introducing some of the things we miss like Mind Control Cap, Water breathing and so on. While no one would put Water Breathing head enchant on their primary tanking helm, it would still be nice to slap the enchant on recently replaced piece of plate, rather then the

About Engineering

First, about the motorcycles: Either make them BoP, or require Engineering (450) to use, or take them out of the game altogether. Yes, I’m serious. I would rather see nobody with one than see everyone with one, and I’m sure a lot of Engineers agree. Give the Engineers something else, instead. We’ve been the red-headed step-child of professions for way too long. Our ‘Eng. only’ item enchants are kind of cool, but when everyone’s in endgame, only the glove gadget will be worth anything. Everything else will be out-shined by enchants. Give us more gadget-enhancements, please, on item slots that won’t be over-written by enchants, or make them stack! The chopper’s cool, and you guys have obviously put a lot of work into them, but seriously, you screwed up and screwed us over. Engineers need love. (Also rogues. Rogues need love. But that’s a separate issue.)

BIKES EARLIER and WHY!

This is the plea of all plea’s, please let Engineers have the ability to make those great motorcycles below level 80 and here is why. Many of us get more WoW time because we’ve involved our spouse / girlfriend / boyfriend / significant other the game. Oh the joy it brings us to play together but then there’s the anguish over the “Wait for me” or the “I don’t want to play anymore cuz it feels like I’m just following you around” or you lose them while on follow because you came to close to a tree while afk and now they’re dead because they went afk (and pissed at you because of it). Ok, so we read the quest faster. Ok so we have a better internal compass that allows us an inherent ability to navigate the world faster or any other reason. But for the love of god Blizz throw the “Couples of WoW” a bone here – I don’t think we’re asking alot. We’re playing as a couple that’s 2 x the subscription fee and for families that’s even more. I would gladly pay an Engineer 5K gold to

10man locked until 25 is cleared?

They’re trying to decide whether or not 10man raids should be locked out until some guild on your server has cleared it on 25man? Well, here’s my input on the topic. Why should people doing 10mans have to literally WAIT IN LINE to do a raid? Blizzard, why not just come and say; “We want to let you see content but we don’t want it to mean anything.” ? I don’t want to wait in line to try the content out. I want to level to 80 with my 9 friends, and kill %%%*. If it’s left like this, all 10man raiding guilds would be best off pileing onto servers with top ranked guilds to ensure the raids are unlocked ASAP. Sure, most won’t do this, but to pigeon hold people on weak servers into doing something similar… defeats the purpose of 10man raiding in the first place, doesn’t it? Are you afraid of players doing 10mans walking around with better loot because they’re 2 instances ahead of any 25man raiding guild? Well, make it so they’ve earned it if that was the case! If 10mans and 25mans are equal in difficulty, taking

Tips for new Death Knights from a fellow melee, part 1

Tips for new Death Knights from a fellow melee, part 1   Dear reanimated angst-puppy hero corpses, Love what you’ve done with the smell, really. The little air freshener attached to the runeblade is a nice touch. Now that I’m in the beta, I’ve had the opportunity group with — conservatively — billions of you. I’ve healed a lot of Death Knight tanks, and tanked for a lot of Death Knight DPS. Most of you seem like cool people, so I say this with sincere love in my little Druid heart and a touch of worry over what will happen in November: Most of you are awful. I don’t wish to be needlessly cruel here, mind you, or to overlook that the class is still new. Blizzard endlessly tinkers with you, so it’s not like your rotations haven’t changed, or your talents and skills are stable. And I know you’re not coming to Northrend with a bank full of awesome gear from Burning Crusade. This isn’t about your wearing greens or using the wrong attack or tanking rotation; I’m not even going to bother with the theorycraft

Forum post of the day: Mobile love

Forum post of the day: Mobile love Recently, rumors have been spreading about a mobile application for WoW. Blizzard has been trying to get some information through a series of mobile service polls on the forums. Bornakk began a poll regarding the number of times forum users have downloaded games or applications for cellular devices. In the cellular era, Blizzard appears to be making our favorite MMORPG more mobile friendly. Many of the posters indicated that they have the latest in smartphones and thus are constantly adding new aps. This will likely encourage Blizzard to provide better mobile support. This will be handy considering that they have been resistant to third party mobile applications.   As it stands I have a hard time even accessing on my cell phone. I know my Blackberry 7250 is somewhat dated, but it handles most websites pretty well. In WoW’s current form I find the forums too cumbersome to read. It will be nice to see the mobile environment get some love. Now if I could just play the Auction House from my cell, I’d be all set. The poll has been up for

WoW Insider Show back live tomorrow

WoW Insider Show back live tomorrow Ok, people, it’s time to get back on track. After a short vacation last week (we had to go prerecorded), the show is back live tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm Eastern, and after a few week’s absence, the inimitable Turpster is returning to the virtual airwaves with us. Amanda Dean will also be on, and planned topics of discussion include that whole Honor wipe deal (which some players aren’t happy about), the ongoing Brewfest holiday (how are your tickets coming), and anything else new in the beta we’d like to talk about. Additionally, thanks to listener Spacenerd, we’ll have a giveaway — if you want to pick up some extra special loot, make sure to tune into WoW Radio tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm Eastern to listen to how it all will go down. And we’ll be in IRC live as well, at in the #wowradio channel. Finally, if you’d like to email us questions, concerns, words or praise or just something silly, feel free: the email address is . Should be a great show tomorrow — it’ll be nice to get back

Hunter changes in beta 8962

Hunter changes in beta 8962 There are a slew of new updates to Hunters in the latest beta build, but the biggest one comes to Aspect of the Viper. Blizzard has been tuning this spell for a while — originally it gave Hunters back their ranged damage as mana (pretty overpowered), and then was tuned down to each shot giving back mana based on twice the base ranged weapon speed. Now it’s still based on the base ranged speed, but they’ve buffed it back up to a percentage of mana — if you have a base ranged weapon speed of 2, for example, you’ll get 4% mana back for every shot that hits. Not a bad deal, and hopefully Blizzard is getting close to settling on making itso that Hunters only need to switch to AotV sometimes, instead of leaving it up all the time. Most of the other Hunter changes in 8962 are just tweaks — Kill Shot no longer does a knockdown and got a little damage buff. Tranq shot got added utility, in that it will remove enrage and magic effects rather than just the frenzy effect that was so hard to come by. Misdirection’s cooldown

A Holy Disc Priest’s thoughts on the new Priest glyphs

A Holy Disc Priest’s thoughts on the new Priest glyphs A list of tentative Priest Glyphs have been released into the recent beta for Wrath of the Lich King. Since I am no expert in Shadow, I’ll defer an examination of those Glyphs to the resident WI guru. All I can say for the most part is that these Glyphs show promise. I’ll go over the Glyphs that affect the healing Priest (Discipline or Holy) and discuss their application raid environments, PvP environments and otherwise. Alex Ziebart published his initial review of the Shadow Glyphs earlier today so be sure to give that a read after this one. Glyph of Lightwell – Increases the amount healed by your Lightwell by 1 to 6% So here is Lightwell as it is currently in the Wrath beta. As you can see, a level 80 max rank unbuffed Lightwell offers 4620 health over 6 seconds. Let’s assume that lady luck is with you today and you managed to hit a 6% increase. Your Lightwell now heals for a whopping, jaw dropping, fear inducing 4900 healing (give or take). Now is that really worth a Glyph? I don’t
