WoW Moviewatch: Nobody Like You Chris– er Hanukkah Special?

Just in time for the holidays, NinthBatter has busted out the Nobody Like You Chris– er Hanukkah Special. NinthBatter says that he created this video because there isn’t much Hanukkah machinima out there. That makes his song selection perfect, considering the nominal reason for Adam Sandler’s Chanukah Song is the same. Of course, NinthBatter dressed up Sandler’s holiday classic with the necessary dose of World of Warcraft references. Not only does he shout out to the appropriate NPCs and legends of the game, but he manages to give smiling nods to certain key Blizzard executives. And, you know, Turpster. (Who, it turns out, isn’t Jewish.) I feel like I say this a lot, but this is probably my favorite NinthBatter video yet. The gag with Arthas singing just hasn’t gotten old for me yet, and the ghoul choir during closing credits is spectacular. I truly loved the Nobody Like You Chris — er Hanukkah Special.

Around Azeroth: What has been seen cannot be unseen

Winterschill of Kirin Tor sent in this screenshot of the new leper gnome boss Krick in the Pit of Saron. Krick seems too terrified to be much of an effective fighter without his giant mount. This may be why there aren’t a whole lot of gnome bosses in this game. Or maybe Krick is upset because he looks like the end result of an unholy Saturday night liaison between a bottle of vodka and the random character generator. Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We’d love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next! Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word “Azeroth” in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing — use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards,

The Guild sells out for Christmas

It was just on Sunday that we first heard about a Guild Christmas special, and now here it is. The Guild gang have decided that the web series thing isn’t really happening with the money, so they’re taking the advice of commenters and selling out with six different pieces of merchandise, one for each Guild member. They’re actually pretty funny, from a Codex “answer Orb” to a talking Tinkerballa doll to a Vork unbreakable bank (unfortunately, all of the items have been recalled for various reasons). There’s some cool guest stars in the mix as well — see if you can spot Heroes‘ James Kyson Lee (in a Delorean!) and our buddy Alex Albrecht, along with a few other familiar faces. Good stuff, and man, The Guild crew is getting really good at making some quality video. No word whether these will show up on Xbox Live at all (they’re actually out now on YouTube, so this may just be something the guys did for fun, outside of the Microsoft agreement), but you can watch them all right now above. Merry Christmas, guildies! All I really want

Around Azeroth: Fools rush in

Instance servers down? No problem. The solution to any dilemma is to apply enough force to the weakest point and see what breaks. The intrepid adventurers of the Argent Dawn server didn’t let server instability and lag keep them from charging headfirst into the entrance to the Forge of Souls. I wonder if those swirly portals hurt when you bang your head into them? (Thanks to submitter Frodrick of <The Ashwood Chronicles> on Argent Dawn.) Breakfast Topic: Are legendaries good for the game?

Sunsmoon on WoW_ladies makes an uncomfortably accurate observation concerning legendaries — people tend to get a little nuts around them. Anyone doing Tier 6 back in the day doubtless remembers the fistfights over who was going to get a Warglaive, WoW players worldwide were in shock at a rogue getting Thor’idal over two hunters, and the annals of classic WoW are rife with nightmare stories of /gquits over Bindings of the Windseeker and arguments over Sulfuras going to a druid. Nowadays (as someone on my realm remarked in a moment’s pique), of the six Val’anyrs that have been assembled on our server, only one remains in its original guild. A reasonable person might be forgiven for thinking that the little orange text accompanying what’s usually a decent weapon with a great proc is a lot more trouble than it’s worth. A good point is brought up by Amiyuy in the thread — the process of creating a legendary, or having to keep farming for an extremely uncommon drop, tends to wear people out. A healer on track to build a Val’anyr

Around Azeroth: Up where we belong

Has this feature suddenly been turned into Around Arkham Asylum? Not quite, although I might be game for an Around Rapture feature sometime in mid-February. This max-distance shot of the mage quarters in Stormwind, submitted by Wrezolution of Twilight’s Hammer-EU, is indeed startlingly reminiscent of something you’d see while dressed in a cape and hanging upside-down from a gargoyle. Watch out when you glide kick, though — it’s a heck of a long way to the ground here. Breakfast Topic: What do you do when your server is down?

The players on the Emberstorm and Whirlwind battlegroups have had a rough week. A massive power outage, huge network issues and other problems have forced them away from their virtual homes to find refuge elsewhere. Some have joined the It came from the Blog guild on Zangarmarsh, where we have had two impromptu server outage parties. The picture above is from Tuesday night’s shindig. Others have commented in the outage posts that they have formed level 1 raids on other servers. And of course there are other games to play. Personally, if both Zangarmarsh and my main server are down, I figure it’s time to start watching what’s on the DVR and knitting. What do you do when your server is down?

Officers’ Quarters: Cross-server LFG and you

Every Monday Scott Andrews contributes Officers’ Quarters, a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership. With Patch 3.3, the new LFG interface will certainly reshape PUGs as we know (and loathe) them. This week, one reader wants to know how the new system might affect guilds. Hi there Scott, As we all know, patch 3.3 will bring many great things. As a guild leader, one of the new features makes me happy but also slightly worries me: the new LFG system. Of course, it’s a big boon to everyone and will greatly increase the chance of success of pugs (particularly the lower level dungeons), but it also takes away that what I liked about pugs: meeting new players from your own server. A pug was a great way to meet somebody, a way to check if they would fit within your guild. Questions like “Do they have the required maturity for my guild?” or “Do they understand their class well enough for our raids?” were mostly always answered with one heroic pug. This is the way that I have met most of my guild members that make my current guild as it is:

Shifting Perspectives: Why effective health needs to die, part 1

Every week (usually), Shifting Perspectives examines issues affecting druids and those who group with them. This week, we brace ourselves for the howling pack of tanks likely to descend upon us, but — as we have previously observed — we are used to staying at the top of someone’s hate list. If you’ve tanked at all over the course of Wrath, you’ve probably become familiar with the phrase “effective health.” It’s a concept that’s cropped up with increasing frequency on the tanking forums, and not necessarily in a good way. If you knew nothing of the idea beyond how players tend to use it, you’d be forgiven for thinking that “effective health” is the only metric by which all tanks are measured, and proof that Blizzard either can’t (or won’t) balance the game. There are very real differences between the tanking classes when it comes to average EH, and this has resulted in some angry discussion when the term is thrown around by players who either don’t really understand what it means, or
